Centro Médico Latino proudly serves Hispanic and Latino patients. The doctors all speak Spanish and English, and some are of Hispanic or Latino descent. Centro Médico Latino provides a wide array of services, with an emphasis on preventive medicine, and it serves all age groups. Below are some of the services offered by our Hispanic clinic.
Examen Médico de Inmigración
An immigration medical exam is a required part of gaining US citizenship. It is done to make certain that the immigrant does not have any physical or mental conditions that could make them a danger to the public.
Not just any doctor can perform an immigration medical exam; they have to be a civil surgeon certified by the federal government. In addition to performing the exam, the civil surgeon will help the patient fill out the necessary paperwork.
After taking the patient’s medical history, the civil surgeon will perform a physical exam at our Hispanic clinic. They will examine the patient from top to toe. Adult patients will also have to undergo a blood test and chest X-ray. Pregnant women may ask their consular office or embassy to postpone their physical exam.
The civil surgeon will then perform a psychological exam to assess the patient’s intelligence and mental health. Drug habits or psychological disorders associated with violent or destructive behavior can result in the patient being denied US citizenship.
The United States also requires new immigrants to have had certain vaccines—which is why the patient needs to bring their vaccination records. The civil surgeon will administer any vaccines that the patient needs. Centro Médico Latino provides free vaccines for children through a program called “Vaccines For Children” that is operated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Other Reasons for a Physical at Our Hispanic Clinic
A person who is being considered for a job will often need to undergo a physical to prove they are capable of doing the work. Many employers also want applicants to undergo drug tests, and the doctor can help the patient improve their chances of passing a drug test.
Preventive Medicine
Preventive medicine describes practices intended to keep the patient healthy and reduce their chances of developing chronic problems like heart disease or high blood pressure. An annual check-up is a well-known part of preventive medicine. The doctor will assess the patient’s overall health and provide advice on how to improve it.
A patient’s needs will vary by age; older patients typically need more medical care than do young adults, and they also need to undergo more tests. For example, a healthy adult under 40 needs to have an EKG every three years, while an adult over 50 should have one every year.
